Choreographers notes:
While listening to the song Eleanor Rigby, I was reminded of a recent experience: In my building in NYC, there’s an old, lonely woman that I see in the elevator from time to time. She’s a little bit “out-of –it”. I guess that it’s a side effect of some medication, I’m not sure. One day, I found out that she had been an Olympic medalist swimmer! I was trying to imagine this and I began thinking about other people that I pass on the street- the custodian, the woman at the check out counter, the homeless veteran... They've been young and in love. They may have had a glorious past. You can never tell. “All the lonely people, where do they all come from?”

Choreographers notes:
There is a time in our life, where the awareness of death in our heart and conscience, becomes more present with each day and continues to grow. It really isn’t death itself we fear so much; what we really fear the most is the way we are going to die. We surely are aware of the certainty of death, but the uncertainty of time of death is a fear living with us throughout our lives. Often we do not try not to take things for granted, but we still do. In times when we are suffering and are most vulnerable, we are most appreciative and value even the smallest and unimportant things in our lives. At this point we realize how short life really is and wish for things to be done differently in the past. Looking into the future, we are planning on living the rest of our live appreciative and to its fullest capacity. Once we get older we start to worry more and more and wonder what will happen to us once we die. When we are young we are questioning life after death, when we get older we start believing in life after death and hope for our soul to be immortal.

Sueno
In memory of Maurice Bejart, a mentor, teacher, wonderful person and artistic genius. Maurice Béjart, a French choreographer who ran the Béjart Ballet Lausanne in Switzerland died November 22, 2007.

Choreographers notes:
During my time as a professional dancer I had the pleasure to work with Bejart and to dance for his intense dance company Bejart Ballet Lausanne. Bejart elevated the role of the male dancer, giving them more respect and importance by elevating the choreography for male dancers. Still to this date, choreographers, dancers and audiences experience the influence of and are inspired by Bejarts’ choreography.

Several times Mr. Bejart’s vision and intellectual creativity has inspired me, to create and to choreograph short ballets. Since the death of Bejart was the reason to create my new ballet, I was looking for a more personal approach to choreograph Sueno. I wanted this ballet to be created by inspiration of feelings. I wanted my current feelings, combined with the feelings I had while working for Bejart, to guide me through the process of choreographing this ballet.
