Teacher Spotlight: Sarah Jefferies

Sarah Jefferies began her early training at Alaska Dance Theatre, starting pre-ballet at about the same time Alaska Dance Theatre first opened its doors. Her dance education and professional career includes Richmond Ballet, Butler University/Jordan College of Fine Arts, Lou Conte Dance Studio, University of Kansas, Colorado State University, Peoria Ballet Company, Storling Dance Theatre, Kansas City Ballet, 940 Dance Company, California Ballet Company, and San Diego Opera Company to name a few. Her performance career was rooted in both contemporary work and classical ballet. Not only was she fortunate to work with world-renown choreographers on many original works, but also built a tremendous resume of classical repertoire.

Ms. Jefferies earned a BA in Dance Pedagogy with Honors from Butler University. Her teaching career includes nurturing students of all ages in multiple disciplines across the nation. She has held prestigious positions such as Ballet Mistress of Peoria Ballet Academy, Ballet Mistress of the Lawrence Arts Center School of Dance, Kansas Young Audiences Outreach/In School Residency, California Ballet School Satellite School Manager and Summer Program Coordinator, and Associate Artistic Director of Alaska Dance Theatre. Most recently, her teaching talents are reaching more of Alaska with the Homer Summer Dance Intensives.

Sarah’s ties to Alaska tourism and dance kept her returning to the state throughout her professional dance career. Students love her kind and caring nature, and her meticulous approach to technique. Sarah has been a jewel in the ADT community dedicated to the highest standards in training, performance, and sharing the JOY of dance.
